The Coghlans fuel works just fine, I can bake with it just as well as with Esbit. Maybe even better, as the round tablets are easy to cut in half, and this helps to conserve fuel as well as lower the burn temp a bit, and hence reduce the chance of burning the baked goods.

From bacon cheese bread to cookies, I love baking with my epicurean stove. That said, it still seems unusual that your fuel would only last 15 minutes. You should get at least twice that. I haven't tried any steam baking (just dry baking), so I can't comment on what's going on with steam baking.

HJHikin' Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01554269915148144573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359823178932343980.post-6849086952267272282015-09-17T21:33:59.007-07:002015-09-17T21:33:59.007-07:00Hi, thanks for providing all this great informatio...Hi, thanks for providing all this great information. I have just received an Epicurean Titanium UL15 DIY stove from flatcatgear. This is one that you have to debur and bend, which was pretty trival. Tried by first bake tonight, which was a steamed cake. I found that 2 Coughlans fuel tabs were mostly gone 15 minutes into the steam part of the bake. I put one more in and some older crumbs and that got me well beyond the 35 minutes I was looking for. I was thinking I should have been able to get 35 minutes + off two tabs, but I wonder if the time the stove was in "high" mode to get the water boiling used most of the fuel? Unfortunately I did not time that. Also, there as lots of ash left over, and a fair amount of unburned fuel under the ash. Since you use the same fuel tabs I wondered if you had experienced either of these issues.

thanks, MattMatthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06547795738488022444noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359823178932343980.post-90253185031895801252013-09-06T16:36:32.760-07:002013-09-06T16:36:32.760-07:00I'll have to try burning off the residue some ...I'll have to try burning off the residue some time.

HJHikin' Jimhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01554269915148144573noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4359823178932343980.post-50280508183316926902013-09-06T16:36:07.746-07:002013-09-06T16:36:07.746-07:00That's a great question. I ask because the biggest bugbear of Esbit stoves for me is that residue - if there is away of 'cooking' it off the bottom of the pot then I may be willing to give this stove a try!
